If you’re a fan of meat dishes you must try the famous Fleischschnacka a tasty meat and dough roll, the Knack which are smoked sausages with a very distinctive flavour or the Baeckeoffe, a delicious stew made with marinated lamb, beef and pork and plenty of vegetables. The renowned choucroute is an absolute must. Pickled cabbage infused with garlic, spices and wine is piled onto your plate and topped with any number of sausages, potatoes, bacon and maybe even dumplings. Those with a sweet tooth are in for a treat too ! Try the wonderfully filling Dampfnudle which is a kind of pasta bun served with sugar and fruit or the Kougelhof, a sweet bread made with kirsch or rum topped with raisons and almonds.
