Things to do in Metz

Perhaps the most well-known local landmark is the Centre Pompidou-Metz, which attracts contemporary art enthusiasts from around the world. Metz is also a hotspot for mythology enthusiasts, fascinated with the legend of the Graoully, a dragon that is said to have lived in the city’s amphitheatre. Music lovers come to Metz for the live rock, indie, DJ nights and jazz entertainment, as well as the crowded gigs at the Music Box concert venue. Walking along the esplanade, visitors can enjoy the lush greenery and the many splendid water features, known locally as "jeux d’eaux", and there is a beach created every year by the Plan d’Eau lake which stages free summertime activities and entertainment. Festivities peak with the Fête de la Mirabelle, a local carnival and procession with colourful floats adorned in honour of the humble plum. Winter is also busy, with the local Christmas Market up and running in all its illuminated glory at the beginning of December.
