Seaside or countryside holidays, Brittany offers so much choice !

When on holiday in Brittany, choose a holiday rental with direct access to the beach in delightful seaside towns such as Guidel Plages , Plougasnou or Tregastel. Not forgetting of course the family-friendly campsite Kerleyou offering mobile homes, lodges and chalets for your holiday in Douarnenez. Recharge batteries by taking a walk along the Atlantic coast and soaking up the energy of the waves breaking against the cliffs and breathing in the refreshing sea air ! Regardless of the capricious weather, with good outdoor clothing and footwear, you can discover the treasures of the Brittany coastline with its many charming fishing villages. When you need to dry off, there are plenty of cafes and restaurants with welcoming hosts where you have the opportunity to try delicious local delights such as the famous Breton crepes (delicious sweet or savoury pancakes). When the summer sun shines in Brittany, there is nothing better than finding a sheltered spot on a long sandy beach and just contemplating the stunning scenery. Take a boat trip, or for the sailors among you, hire a boat and sail around this spectacular part of the French coast where you can admire the many lighthouses and the varied seabirds which flock here to places such as the Archipelago of Sept-Iles. In any season, marvel at the wonders of the tidal coastline with its every-changing landscapes and pallet of pastel colours. The Brittany countryside offers a wonderful choice of walking and biking circuits in particular in the Landes de Lanvaux where the strong smells of broom, heather and gorse surround you… This wooded area is dotted with crosses and granite chapels. You can discover the megaliths (menhirs and dolmens), placed around 7,000 years ago which make up the legends of Brittany. Over 3,000 stones can be found around the village of Carnac. The more adventurous among you can organize a nature walk in the gardens and high peaks and don’t miss a cultural visit to the many castles and chapels that Brittany abounds.

Seafood lovers, Brittany is the place to be

If your idea of a gastronomical treat is a “plateau de fruits de mer” (a seafood platter) then book a holiday rental in Brittany and get ready to send your tastebuds into orbit ! On every street corner and particularly along the harbours in the pretty little fishing villages, you will be tempted by the wide variety of shellfish on offer. Relax on a restaurant terrace in Saint Philibert overlooking the bay and taste some of the best oysters on the Atlantic coast. You can even take a visit to the waterside oyster market in Cancale where you can enjoy the freshly fished oysters as they come off the boat. Treat yourself and order a large platter which will consist of crabs, prawns, langoustines, oysters, periwinkles, whelks, cockles, clams and other delights… Accompanied by some fresh rye bread, homemade mayonnaise and salted butter… mouth-watering is the only description ! If you are an oyster fan in particular, you really are in the right spot. Oysters from southern and northern Brittany are much appreciate for their exceptional quality and in 2019 the Cancale oysters were added to the UNESCO list of intangible cultural heritage ! Local markets offer the chance to buy fresh oysters so you can enjoy them once back in your holiday rental in a residence, Prestige residence, or family-friendly mobile home campsite, in Brittany.

Head off to discover the islands off the Brittany coast

A holiday in Brittany is a great outdoor adventure to be enjoyed with family or friends or both ! Brittany has the longest stretch of coastline in France and the Gulf of Morbihan is dotted with over 40 islands some of which are open to visitors. Book a holiday rental and take a boat trip to get a glimpse of all most of the islands or you can choose to visit those open to the public. The largest island in this area is Ile aux Moines, much appreciated for its ancient trees, particularly mild climate and modern ecological lifestyle. Ile de Brehat has its own microclimate and is extremely popular with hikers and cyclists who come here to enjoy the peace and quiet – no cars are allowed on the island ! The Glenan archipelago is particularly well known for its sailing and diving schools. Located just off the Finistere coast, this area has earned the nickname of the Breton Tahiti thanks to its white sands and beautiful lagoon. Kayak rentals are available – the best way to appreciate the wonders of this magical spot. Ushant or Ile d’Ouessant, the final stop before heading off to America, is popular in the autumn with birdwatchers as the migratory birds flock here before heading for warmer climates for the winter. You can meet the smallest sheep in the world here – a breed native to this island. Visit the 6 lighthouses on this pretty island, the oldest dating back to 1695 built by Vauban or discover the island houses, small dwellings where sailors sheltered from the wind and rain and soak up the wonderful, relaxed atmosphere here while on holiday with family or friends in Brittany.
